· Jeju Mythology
An island of 18,000 deities
A giant goddess (설문대할망) taller than Hallasan (한라산). Five hundred sons (오백장군) turned to stone. A goddess (자청비) who crossed the sky for love. Jeju mythology runs on its own current — and once you know it, the landscape itself changes shape.
"Wherever you go on Jeju (제주), somebody's story is already attached to that ground. The crater of Hallasan (백록담) is the cauldron the goddess once dropped. The pillar-rocks at Yeongsil (영실기암) are her sons. Few islands in Korea braid people, nature, and myth together this tightly."
